About Fazer FI V 2.0 [2016-2018]

Yamaha introduced its sporty 150cc naked motorcycle, the FZ, back in 2008. It was soon followed by the semi-faired Fazer in 2009. Now that the FZ Version 2.0 is here and doing well in the market, the Japanese motorcycle brand has introduced the Fazer. As before, the Fazer mechanically remains identical to the new FZ and the FZ-S.

Like the new FZ range, the Fazer Version 2.0 is offered with a new 149cc, 4-stroke, single-cylinder engine. The highlighting upgrade here is the fact this engine now comes with fuel injection for better refinement and throttle response. Cosmetically, the Fazer continues with its semi-fairing and twin headlights at the front, which sets it apart from the FZ and FZ-S.

The new 149cc, air-cooled engine develops 12.9bhp and 12.8Nm of torque through a five-speed gearbox. Despite being less powerful than the carburetted version, the new fuel-injected Fazer offers better performance and efficiency than the old model. The front gets conventional telescopic suspension and a monoshock with a swingarm at the rear. Stopping power is courtesy a disc brake in the front and drum brake at the rear.

Though the new Fazer doesn’t really compete with any bike in its segment due to its niche appeal, the pricing puts it close to other semi-faired motorcycles like the Bajaj Pulsar 220F and the Hero MotoCorp Karizma. The bike is priced at Rs 88,143 (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Fazer has very good looks, and decent performance and very high maintenance cost. so need to bear with that. I bought it in 2015, till now I have ridden it for more than 74,000 km. so I think maintenance is the only drawback. It rides well, it has a good deal efficiency

Until recently, the Yamaha Fazer and FZ-S enjoyed the monopoly of being the only two premium commuter motorcycles to be offered with a fuel-injection system. Now though, this monopoly has come to an end with the launch of the Suzuki Gixxer SF Fi. While the Gixxer SF Fi and the Fazer Version 2.0 have slightly different body styles, they serve the same purpose and essentially attract the same set of buyers. Both aim to offer the versatility to handle a fair bit of touring while dealing with the daily routine of office commutes. Let’s take a look at how these motorcycles stack up on the paper.
