About Africa Twin [2021]

The Africa Twin is Honda’s take on a large-displacement adventure touring motorcycle. Honda’s four consecutive wins in the Dakar Rally have been the inspiration behind the creation of the Africa Twin and this strong legacy has made it widely popular across the globe.

For 2021, Honda has just introduced two new colours as it had given the bike a major overhaul just a year before in 2020. The changes it had received then included a sharper and more aggressive styling, a larger engine, and a new set of electronic aids.

Starting with the feature list, it comprises a 6.5-inch TFT touchscreen display that is compatible with Apple CarPlay. Also, there’s full-LED lighting, cornering lights, and heated grips. Electronic rider aids, which work with a six-axis inertial measurement unit, include cornering ABS, rear-lift control, Honda Selectable Torque Control, cruise control, wheelie control, and DCT cornering detection.

The 2021 Africa Twin CRF1100L features the same engine as the 2020 model that had received a bump in its displacement over its predecessor. So, it is propelled by a 1,084cc, parallel twin-cylinder motor that churns out 102bhp at 7,500rpm and 105Nm at 6,250rpm. There are two transmission options available including Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) and Manual.

Hardware on the motorcycle comprises a 21-inch front wheel, 18-inch rear wheel, 43mm fully-adjustable Showa upside-down front forks, Pro-link rear mono-shock, dual disc brakes at the front, and a single disc at the back.

Honda Africa Twin [2021] Expert Opinion

  • Good Things

    • Extremely easy to ride on the trails
    • 1100cc engine is quite torquey
    • Equipped with touchscreen instrument cluster
  • Could be Better

    • Bike has become pricey
    • Not available at all Honda showrooms
    • Expensive to maintain

BikeWale's Take

The new Africa Twin 1100cc gets a bigger engine, more features and is now far safer than the older model. The bike is equipped with touch screen display, making it one of the few bikes in the world to get one. It also gets electronic rider aids, which work with a six-axis inertial measurement unit, include cornering ABS, rear-lift control, Honda Selectable Torque Control, cruise control, wheelie control and DCT cornering detection. But with all these additions, the bike has become quite expensive.
