Upcoming BMW R 1300 GS spied testing again

- Radar-based cruise control system imminent

- Blind spot detection could also be on offer

- Official unveil expected to take place later this year

BMW’s upcoming flagship adventure tourer, which may be called the R 1300 GS, has been spied testing once again. This will be the successor of the existing R 1250 GS and the new spy shots reveal plenty about the nature of updates it could get.

BMW R 1250 GS Head Light

While the R 1250 GS is already generously equipped with electronic aids, the 1300 GS should take things a notch higher. Among the most notable updates will be the inclusion of adaptive cruise control, similar to the likes of the Ducati Multistrada V4 S. Moreover, a blind spot detection system will certainly be a part of the package. Both these goodies will be based on radar, placed at the front and back. To make it even more high-tech, BMW seems to be testing an electronically-adjustable windscreen on the motorcycle.

BMW R 1250 GS TFT / Instrument Cluster

The Bavarian brand was evidently testing two variants with differences lying in the position of their engine protection plate and protection bar. The placement of turn indicators also varied – one had them placed on the headlight frame while the other incorporated them within the knuckle guards.

BMW R 1250 GS Tail Light

Coming to the heart of the matter, a larger 1,300cc, boxer-twin motor will also be introduced which will essentially be a bigger-bore iteration of the existing mill. This is perhaps done to meet the upcoming Euro5+ emission norms while not compromising on performance. BMW is also evolving from an air-cooled setup to a more modern liquid-cooled setup, and the power output could also see a bump. It is speculated to produce around 150bhp and 145Nm. As per the spy shots, other updates include a revised swingarm, sleeker bodywork, and a new instrument cluster. Furthermore, it’s being speculated that the bike will be lighter than before for a better power-to-weight ratio.

The international unveiling of the BMW R 1300 GS is likely to take place towards the end of 2023 followed by its India launch sometime next year.
